How to Choose a Special Doll

There is one reason for choosing a special doll, and that is to please the receiver.  The search for a special doll can seem overwhelming because of the many types of dolls to choose from.  This article aims to help clarify how to choose a special modern doll for a chosen person.

A brief review of the past 200 years of doll making categorizes dolls into antique dolls, vintage dolls, and modern dolls.  Antique dolls are considered to be those dolls produced prior to 1930.  Vintage dolls are the dolls from the mid-20th century.  They were generally made between the years of 1930 – 1980.  Most vintage and antique dolls were made as children’s playthings.   Modern dolls are dolls created from approximately 1980 to today.  Modern dolls, as well as being made as children’s playthings, have become a relatively new phenomenon as collectible dolls.  The market for modern collectible dolls was significantly established in the 1990’s.

The search for a special doll begins with research of what’s available from modern doll companies. Some companies to search are Barbie, Madame Alexander, Vogue, Tonner, Only Hearts Club, Adora, Marie Osmond, Jan McLean, Effenbee, Corolle, Ashton Drake, and Middleton Doll.

Since the person receiving the doll could be of any age, it is important to research these companies to learn which age group is being targeted by a particular doll company.  The receiver of a special doll could be a young baby or toddler under the age of four, a young person over the age of three, or an older person who enjoys dolls.

Of the modern doll companies searched, Madame Alexander and  Middleton Doll seemed to target the largest age group audience by offering choices of dolls from ages 0+ through all ages.  In addition to appealing to all age groups, Middleton Doll specifically targets interested doll collectors by offering limited edition collectible dolls.  Barbie, Tonner, and Only Hearts Club make dolls that appeal to pre-teens who enjoy fashion dolls and realistic dolls.

In comparing the modern doll companies, Middleton Doll is an excellent choice for finding a special doll because it creates dolls that appeal to a very large doll audience. PlayBaby baby dolls are just right for babies 0+ through 4years. The Middleton Now collection appeals to the 3+ age group.  In addition to these choices, Middleton Doll extends its collection to appeal to the modern doll collector by offering Limited Edition Collectible dolls.  These dolls are produced for an adult’s aesthetic taste, not a child’s aesthetic taste, to appeal to the older adult.

Hopefully, this article helps in the search for finding a special doll that pleases the special person.

Amish Doll Furniture Brightens your Childs Imagination

Rummaging around in the attic, you move boxes, cartons and bags, moving aside old holiday decorations and baby clothes. You know it’s up here somewhere. Then, you see the case. It looks smaller than you remember it, but as far as you know, the last time you saw it was when it was put up here when you were 11 or 12 years old. Your mother calls up to you, “Have you found it?” You shout back that you have and carefully begin extracting the heavy case from the nether regions of your parent’s attic. The case contains your Amish Doll Furniture and the doll house it resides in, and you can’t wait to see it in the light.

As you back down the attic stairs, the contents of the box shift and you slow your pace. These wooden pieces of Amish Doll Furniture were given to you by your mother, and they were given to her by her mother.

You set the case down and open the top and are at once delighted and amazed by the tiny, perfectly shaped and stained pieces, tables, chairs, beds, dressers, lamps and other room accessories built from wood to tiny perfection.
As you wrap the pieces in tissue and then into a gift box, you imagine the hours of play your young daughter will enjoy arranging and rearranging the pieces throughout the many rooms of the dollhouse. You can’t wait to share the stories of how you played as a girl with her and to invent new ways to play with the Amish Doll Furniture together.

You begin to un-wrap the pieces again. Now that you think of it, they could use a nice polish. You want her to appreciate their age, but not for them to look old. Your imagination has been passed on.

We at Amish-furniture-home.com are dedicated to offering beautiful Amish furniture for all rooms of your home. With the addition of the new website we are able to offer our customers a wide selection of products such as bedroom, office, living room and outdoor furniture. Beginner’s Guide to Buying Doll House Collectibles

Doll house collectibles aren’t exactly affordable so if you’re interested in creating a collection of them, be sure that you’ll buy something worth investing in or one that you’ll have infinite pleasure with.

Reasons for Buying
The first thing you should determine is your reason for buying doll house collectibles. Do you see it as an investment or a hobby? By making this distinction alone, you’ll already be able to sort and ascertain which ones would and wouldn’t qualify for your collection.

Getting Your Money’s Worth from Doll House Collectibles
Whether you consider buying doll house collectibles an investment or a hobby, make sure you consider the tips below the next time you go shopping.

Verify the condition
We’re not just talking about second hand doll house collectibles. Brand new doll house collectibles may also have incurred damage during their stint at store shelves because of their size and their composition. Doll houses that are made of fragile materials may have scratches, folds, and other kinds of damage due to negligent handling.
As for second hand doll house collectibles, just exercise the usual caution when shopping for used items.

Verify authenticity
Doll house collectibles can fetch a better price if they come with their original box or packaging. For authentic doll house collectibles, consider having an expert appraise and certify their date of manufacture.

Buy sets with possible expansions
Some manufacturers create new editions or complementary sets to previous doll house collectibles they’ve designed. They may also create new furniture and other accessories for their old designs. These are the kind of doll house collectibles you should focus on collecting because not only will a bigger or comprehensive setup be more valuable, they’re also more impressive to look at!

Buy from reputable dealers only
Some sites may offer you cheaper prices, but what if it turns out that the items you’ve purchased them are fake? Don’t waste your time, money, and efforts with such sites. Buy only for reputable dealers and you can be sure that you’ll enjoy first class customer support for any after-sales needs or concerns you may have.

Create a journal
Again, this step is helpful whether you see your collection as an investment or a recreational pursuit. In your journal, detail the items you’ve purchased as well as the dates you’ve made them. It can be quite a pleasure to look back and see your collection’s history unfold. It’s also another way to verify data about your collection in the event that you need them if you are joining an exhibit or selling them.

Know the basics of shopping for doll house toys.
